U.S.S. Discovery - Classic TOS Style

Finally got around to watching the first season of Discovery. I do not believe I will bother to watch the second. Since there are too many people complaining about TV shows on the internet already, I decided to do something mildly productive instead.

The basic shape of the hull actually works fairly well with the style of the old show.

The shorter nacelles compared to the actual Discovery make it a lot easier to fit the whole ship in frame, and get better camera angles.

I tried to scale the windows to make this version of Discovery around the same size as the TOS Enterprise, or a bit smaller.

I added a mild blue glow behind the dish, although that isn't typical of classic TOS. I thought it made the ship look a bit more intresting in low-light conditions.

I actually kept the shape of the bridge dome and the viewscreen window. I always thought it was kind of odd that they would make the bridge so exposed, and not even have the excuse of it providing a better view.

I tried to preserve the mostly smooth surface from TOS, while still adding some detailing for visual intrest. The bottom of the saucer took some inspiration from the movie Enterprise.

I was suprised by how much the angled forward profile resembled the Enterprise-D.

Come to think of it, the aft view kind of reminds me of the NX-01 for some reason.

Idea board. I used several design elements unique to the pilot episode version of the classic Enterprise. The center painting is from a failed Trek project from the 70's, which seems to have been the basis for Discovery.
